Valley Community Champions Awards

VSAAC will host its annual Valley Community Champions Breakfast and Award Recognition Event on June 2, 1010, at Grassy Hill Lodge in Derby, CT.  The event  will honor several Valley citizens who have “taken action and effected change to help prevent substance abuse in the Valley community.”  This year's honorees include Daun Barrett, Griffin Hospital - Valley Parish Nurses; Colleen Holt, Derby High School Student; Joe Laucella, Echo Hose Ambulance; Fred Ortoli, Fred Ortoli Photography; and John Saccu, Derby Youth Service Bureau.

“We are so excited about the awards and the positive response that we received from the community in participating in the nomination process,” said Pamela Mautte, Director of VSAAC. “The work that is being done to help prevent substance abuse, on the grass-roots, community level, is so critical to our efforts to keep our kids safe from tobacco, alcohol and drug abuse – and these awards will help spotlight and applaud those efforts.”

The Valley Community Champions Awards are supported on a national level by General Mills. As the makers of Wheaties cereal, General Mills creates special memorial Wheaties cereal boxes featuring pictures of each award winner. The awards were also sponsored locally by Wal-Mart.

This year's Community Champions Awards Breakfast will be held in conjunction with VSAAC's 20th Anniversary Celebration.  To attend the 2010 Community Champions Awards Breakfast (and 20th Anniversary Celebration), call (203) 736-8566.
